POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Disability Support Worker provides essential direct care to participants, assisting them with daily activities, personal care, and other individualized needs. This role focuses on ensuring that participants receive the highest level of support to thrive, promoting their independence, safety, and well-being. The Disability Support Worker works under the guidance of Day Leaders and Team Leaders to ensure that each participant’s care is in line with their goals, preferences, and the highest industry standards.

Purpose of Role
The Disability Support Worker ensures that participants receive the care and assistance they need to live fulfilling and independent lives. This includes supporting daily living tasks, promoting community engagement, and ensuring safety and well-being, all while maintaining a respectful and person-centered approach.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Direct Support to Participants:
- Assist with daily activities, including personal care, mobility support, and other activities of daily living.
- Support participants in developing and achieving their goals, promoting independence and community participation.
- Ensure that participants are supported in a dignified and respectful manner, always working to uphold their autonomy and preferences.
Health, Safety, and Well-Being:
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with health and safety guidelines, promoting a safe environment for participants.
- Monitor participants’ well-being and respond appropriately to any changes in their condition.
- Report any concerns, incidents, or safety issues to the relevant supervisor.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of care provided and participant progress, adhering to company standards and relevant regulations.
- Report concerns or changes to the Day Leader/Team Leader, ensuring timely communication about any important developments.
Personal Attributes:
- A caring and compassionate nature, with a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of participants.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- Organized, with a focus on delivering high-quality care consistently.
- Proactive, always looking for ways to improve care and ensure participants are supported.

Work Environment:
This position is typically performed in a variety of environments including participant homes, group homes, or community settings. Staff may encounter occasional exposure to unpredictable behaviors, challenging physical tasks, and the need for personal protective equipment (PPE). The work environment can involve working in close quarters with individuals who require support, and staff may need to manage potentially hazardous conditions such as medical equipment, slippery floors, or outdoor weather conditions. Employees should be prepared to manage a variety of environmental factors that may change throughout the day, including the need to adapt to each participant’s unique environment.
